Built in a gatehouse, not a lab
Site Commander was developed on live working sites, with real gates, real contractors, real fire drills and a real reception desk. Every feature shipped because someone standing on site needed it, and stayed because it survived contact with the morning rush at real gates.
Site Commander is a UK company building a cloud access control and workforce management platform. The product was built and proven on live working sites before being offered commercially, which is why its details fit how sites actually run.

Category software built in offices optimises for feature lists. Software built on a site optimises for the moment: the crew at the turnstile, the alarm at two in the afternoon, the auditor on a Friday. The details below did not come from a requirements workshop.

Large touch targets, arm's-length type and audible confirmation, because the kiosk's users are wearing gloves and standing in the wind.
Honest offline behaviour
Local snapshots, queued scans and clear 'data as of' banners instead of silent staleness, because site networks fail and pretending otherwise is dangerous.
Self-healing hardware handling
Badge readers that survive service restarts and USB churn on locked-down machines, because IT is not on site at half past six in the morning.

Nothing important happens by mis-click, because real screens get tapped by accident all day long.
What we believe
Access control should know who is on site, not just whether the door is locked. Software for working sites should be a pleasure to use. And an emergency feature that needs the network is not an emergency feature.
